The 88V shares the 87V's measurement capability and safety rating, then adds the functions vehicle work needs: engine speed through an inductive pickup, plus pulse width and duty cycle for injector and solenoid signals. The decision between the two is simple. If you never measure engine speed, the 88V gives you dial positions you will not use; if vehicles or generators are a real part of your week, it removes a second instrument.
