Top of the 170 series: true-RMS with a backlight and a built-in thermometer, removing a second instrument.

The 179 tops the 170 series by adding temperature measurement to the backlit 177. Being able to check a termination temperature without carrying a separate thermometer matters more in practice than it reads on paper, particularly on maintenance rounds where you are looking for the connection that is running warm. For general electrical and building services work it is the most complete meter in the range without moving up to the industrial 80 series.
