The 117 is built for electricians working in occupied buildings, where the job is as much about proving a circuit is dead as measuring it live. Non-contact voltage detection is integrated, so there is no second tool to reach for. The selectable low-impedance mode is the feature that earns its keep: on long parallel cable runs it suppresses the induced voltages that otherwise show a live reading on a dead conductor, which is the difference between trusting your meter and arguing with it.
