The 773 adds sourcing and direct measurement to the 771's clamp, so one instrument covers both halves of a loop check: read what the transmitter is sending, then drive the loop yourself to prove what the receiving end does with it. For commissioning and fault finding on instrumentation, carrying one tool instead of two is the practical argument.
