The 561 does infrared and contact temperature in one instrument. HVAC work needs both, and for different reasons: infrared for a fast surface scan across a run of pipework, contact for the air or insertion reading that the infrared cannot give you. Having them in one body means the two readings are taken with the same tool at the same moment, which makes comparing them meaningful.
